For the first time, the University of Chicago and the Jao Tsung-I Academy are jointly holding the screening event and sharing session of the documentary "Mount Davis: From Citadel to Campus". We look forward to leading our audience through an enlightening journey of transforming a vacant Grade III historic site into a revitalized heritage and a modern campus.
The Hong Kong Jockey Club University of Chicago Academic Complex I The University of Chicago Francis & Rose Yuen Campus in Hong Kong is located on a Grade III historic site, which is formerly known as the “White House”. University of Chicago (UChicago)’s interpretation and curation consultant team transformed and revitalized the site into a Heritage Interpretation Center open for public visit. Six narratives were developed to interpret the multiple layers of history of the site, starting from the Jubilee Battery in the 1900s, through the Second World War, and then a detention center under the Special Branch of the Hong Kong Police (the documentary includes an account of the interviews with several former detainees), and a shelter to protect witnesses before it was eventually transformed into the Hong Kong campus of UChicago.

• Professor Ruby Yang, Oscar-winning documentary film-maker, interim director and Professor of Practice of the Journalism and Media Studies Centre at HKU. She now heads the Hong Kong Documentary Initiative (HKDI) at HKU, which aims to nurture the next generation of documentary filmmakers in the region.
